Lincoln Avenue and Spring Street Road, Albany County.

Al Tech Specialty Steel Corp is a superfund site located at Spring St Rd, Watervliet, NY 12189. Closed and put off limits to humans in 1994 due to hazardous material pollution, Al-Tech Steel still remains standing as of October 2015.  The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identifies sites such as Al Tech Specialty Steel Corp because they pose or had once posed a potential risk to human health and/or the environment due to contamination by one or more hazardous wastes. Al Tech Specialty Steel Corp is currently registered as an Archived superfund site by the EPA and does not require any clean up action or further investigation at this time.  Many locals feel that the unkept buildings are an eyesore and want it to be demolished as soon as safely possible.

I did not enter the premise because of the toxicity of the grounds.  I would urge you not to explore beyond the no trespassing signs unless permitted.

Photographed October 2015.

  1. I worked there for 14 years. No one cared for the workers safety and well being then either. No one cared that I lost my job at Al Tech. According to them small businesses were what made America not Unions. Jealousy about the steel workers making more money caused the locals to turn their heads when asked for support. I feel the locals abandoned the watervliet workers when it comes to sticking up for peoples employment. No one wants to ask me for anything…trust me. What makes you think any of the steel workers will pay attention to your wants and needs, now. The United Steel Workers of America were dedicated extremely hard workers that worked around the clock for the safety of America not just for a living they made the nuclear submarines that protected this country…at times when no one else would, not even the military. There is a lot of anger in this subject, not only by myself, but by thousands of workers acrostic the country. “Veterans” of foreign wars that never were acknowledged and many suffer permanent wounds much worse than some of those cry asses that vacationed and took credit for suffering nothing.
